Supplements

Nutritional supplements or supplements are substances intended to compensate for nutrient deficits in the daily diet or to create a specific nutrient density.

The largest area of application for dietary supplements is bodybuilding. Here, various substances are used to achieve increased calorie levels in nutritional planning or to support muscle growth with certain substances, such as creatine, which is only found in small quantities in food.

The product range of the supplement manufacturers extends over many areas of application. In addition to the basic products for muscle building, such as protein powder, creatine, amino acids or weightgainer, manufacturers also offer diet products (fat burner) in the form of L-carnitine, guarana, etc.

Proteins

Protein concentrates are usually offered as powders. Capsules and tablets are less common. The effect of the protein depends on its type:

  • Whey protein is rapidly resorbed.
  • Egg protein is used because of its high biological value.
  • Milk protein or casein degrades more slowly and is available for a longer period of time (suitable for the last meal before bedtime)
  • Soy protein is very well tolerated.

Amino Acids

Amino acids, which can be found on the market either as tablets, capsules or liquids (liquids), are proteins that have already been split and are available to the body more quickly, for example before and after training.

BCAA, L-glutamine

Particularly important amino acids, such as glutamine, or combinations of branched-chain amino acids can be purchased as a single product.

Creatine

Creatine has established itself as a performance-enhancing substance. On the basis of creatine monohydrate, various manufacturers offer combination products which are designed to transport creatine more effectively into the muscles by means of special carbohydrates.

Kre-Alkalyn is a relatively new phenomenon. According to the manufacturer, this creatine is not converted into creatinine in liquids and therefore has a higher efficiency.

Weightgainer

Weightgainers have a high nutrient density. The high calorie content consists of about 25% protein and 75% carbohydrates.

Weighgainers are particularly suitable for people who have difficulty building muscle or fat mass.

Diet products or fat burners

Dietary products should support fat burning. L-carnitine, omega fatty acid, CLA or low carb products belong to this group.
